Who is ASDA?
The ASDA (Development Association of Western Athens) was founded in 1989. The municipalities of Agia Varvara, Agioi Anargyroi-Kamatero, Aigaleo, Iliou, Korydallos, Peristeri, Petroupoli, Chaidari and Fyli participate..
Its creation looks forward to asserting and securing national and European resources to address in a coordinated manner the inequalities and increased social, environmental and economic problems of Western Athens.
In particular, according to its founding Act, the main objectives of the ASDA are:
Promoting and exploring intermunicipal cooperation
Co-operation with state institutions and co-ordination of action by all institutions in the region
The spatial, urban and environmental regeneration of Western Athens
The fight against unemployment and the overall economic development of the region
Participation in trans-European networks between cities, etc.
The ASDA has implemented a number of projects and actions, with funds received as a result of its creation, such as
Environmental and urban regeneration projects in all municipalities
Protection against encroachment – Redevelopment and promotion of the Diverse Terms
Protection and development of Antonis Tritsis park
Training and employment programs for the unemployed and support for vulnerable group
Support for small and medium-sized enterprises and entrepreneurship
Development and operation of structures to tackle unemployment
Measures to develop culture
Development studies on the problems of the region
Specific development programs for the overall upgrading of the region
Participation of Western Athens in important European programs and Networks in the fields of Environment, Employment, Culture, Transport and Transport, new Technologies of Women’s Entrepreneurship, Roma, Returnees, Foreigners, etc.
